The Open Air Market in Xanthi
The flea market of Xanthi has its roots back to the Ottoman period and it is held every Saturday in the centre of the city. The open air market or Pazari, as it called, until 1920 was held every Sunday in the central square of Xanthi.
Over the years the market was transforming based on the needs of the people. Therefore there were years that were sold only fruits and vegetables and others that were used as livestock market. Today can be found almost everything! From fruits, vegetables, meat and even more antiques, clothes, carpets, herbs and several products more. Mix with locals interact with the salesmen, bargain and why not enjoy a Greek coffee in a local kafenio and watch the people passing by!
