Folk Museum of Xanthi

The building of the Folk Museum of Xanthi is an exhibit itself. The mansions of Kougioumtzoglou and Kaloudi were built in 1877 from Konstantino Kougioumtzoglou, one of the biggest tobacco traders of Xanthi. The twin mansions are a perfect representative sample of the architecture of the last period of the Turkish occupation, after 1830. The internal wall paintings belong to Bavarians and German artists. The museum’s exhibition is consists from the agriculture tools that use in the area of Xanthi over the times along with magnificent pieces like jewelleries, textiles, silver buckles and runners from Sarakatsanous, Thracian and Pontioi tribes.
