Archaeological Museum of Amphipolis

Only two kilometers from the Thessaloniki-Kavala national highway is located the Archaeological museum of Amphipolis. It is just above the mouth of the River Strimon where the ancient town Amphipolis used to be.

The building that the museum is housed is new and was completed in 1995. The most important exhibits are a seal and a number of the Neolithic period, a figurine of a dancer performing the Peirihios Dance, gold jewellery, three statues of Orestes and Electra, Aphrodite and Eros and a female figure. There is also a siren tearing her hair and beating her breast, silver ossuary and mural paintings.
