Cancellation policy

For cancellations up to 15 days before the tour start: No penalty

For cancellations from 15 up to 5 days before the tour start: 30% of tour cost

For cancellations from 5 up to 2 days before the tour start: 50% of tour cost

For cancellations less than 2 days before the tour start and in case of no-show: 100% of tour cost

Birding and Nature in Prespa Lakes

Duration: 3 day(s) - Location: Prespa Lakes, Florina

One of the most important areas foe birds in Europe (protected by Ramsar Convention from 1974)  Prespa Lakes (Πρέσπες)  welcomes anyone who loves the natural environment.

Diverse habitats like wetlands, rural landscapes, beaches, alpine meadows, forests and other related to the small size of Prespa are making the area a unique wetland and main habitat for bird species that are threatened worldwide, to breed.

Prespa offers the chance to its visitors to spot White Pelicans as is one of the few places that are nesting and also the area that hosts the second largest population of Pygmy Cormorant in Europe! Also the area of Prespa hosts the largest colony of Dalmatian Pelican worldwide which is around 120-150 out of the worldwide population that is less than 1000pairs!

The area of Prespa Lakes is ideal not only for birder watchers but also for nature lovers and travellers who love hiking as in the area can be found more than 1500 species of plants out of the 6500 that exist in Greece! Some of them are even protected by international treaties and many are native plants of Balkans.

This tour of course could only include a beautiful restored stone build guesthouse! Located in the preserved village of Agios Germanos, travellers could not miss the chance and visit some of the plenty Byzantine monuments of the area!


Itinerary

This is a proposed itinerary, which includes a variety of attractions and activities that will help you familiarise yourself with the area, but you can follow your own programme if you prefer.

Day 1
The area of Prespes Lake is located three hours away from Thessaloniki. Depending on season and your departure time from Thessaloniki, you could spend some time in the afternoon in the Lakes.

Day 2
Your day can start early in the morning as it is the best time to observe the birds. If you wishwe could arrange a local guide fro you to walk you along the lake banks.

In the evening you should not miss the chance and visit some of the numerous important Byzantine monuments of the area. A walk in  the small island of Agios Achilleos will astonished with the unparaller nature beauty and the many Byzantine churches among them and the hononymous Basilica of Agios Achilleos (10th century).

Day 3
Depenting on your departure time you could probably spend some time in the Lakes for some more birdwatching. On your way back to Thessaloniki and if you have available time a stop to the city of Kastoria with the impressive number of Byzantine monuments and its beautiful lake worths a visit!
