Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative: 

The mansion is owned and operated by Ioannis Reklos, who also started Oikoperiigitis, an organisation that aims to protect the local environment, wildlife and beauty of his birthplace, Kerkini.

Years ago, Reklos started his crusade by opening the first local environmental support centre. Bit by bit, and after tireless work over time, the "Ecological Centre Kerkinis - Mpelles" was completed, which is now known as "Oikoperjigitis".

When it looked like the "Mansion of Kerkini" was doomed to demolition, Reklos took it upon himself to purchase the old mansion in the square of Kerkini, to ensure its place in the village history and culture is maintained for future generations.

As well as preserving this historical monument, Oikoperiigitis also develops various environmental training programs for schools and other local associations. They even provide various environmental and agro-tourism excursions for travellers to experience and learn about Kerkini's natural beauty for themselves.
